Soul Lab Gym is Townsville's home for authentic Muay Thai — founded by a fighter who travelled the world to learn, then came home to build something real.
WMO State Champion · 35+ Fights · Muay Thai & K-1
Joseph "Machine Gun" Gabiola started his martial arts journey in 2012 and began coaching in 2019. Between those years, he fought over 35 professional bouts across Muay Thai, boxing, and K-1 — travelling extensively to Thailand to train with some of the best fighters and coaches in the world.
His time in Thailand wasn't just about fighting. It was about immersing himself in the culture, meeting incredible people, and absorbing everything the art of eight limbs had to offer. That experience shaped his philosophy — and ultimately led him to focus solely on Muay Thai, leaving MMA behind to open his own gym.
Today, Soul Lab Gym is the result of that journey: a home for authentic Muay Thai in Townsville where technique, discipline, and community come first.
From his first class in 2012 to opening his own gym — a decade of dedication, travel, and growth.
Joseph walked into a gym for the first time in 2012 with no idea where the path would lead. What started as training quickly became an obsession — the discipline, the technique, the culture. He found his home in Muay Thai.
Over the years Joseph built a reputation as a relentless competitor, fighting across Muay Thai, boxing, and K-1. He earned his nickname "Machine Gun" through volume, pressure, and never backing down.
His style is a blend of two influences — a Muay Femur foundation (technical, high-IQ fighting inspired by fighters like Saenchai and Superlek) combined with a Muay Khao pressure game developed through extensive training with elite Thai fighters.
Joseph travelled extensively to Thailand, training at legendary gyms and soaking up knowledge from the sport's best. He trained extensively with Kru Jack, who helped him develop a high fight IQ and technical Muay Femur style, and with Yodwicha, who sharpened his Muay Khao pressure game.
From training camps in Phuket — including Bangtao Muay Thai & MMA — to sessions in the heart of Thailand's fight culture, every trip added depth to his understanding of the art.
Joseph's dedication was recognised with the JH/Explosive Annual Scholarship — an all-expenses-paid overseas training camp award given to fighters who show exceptional commitment and potential.
Every fight, every camp, every lesson learned overseas — it all fed into one vision: building a gym where real Muay Thai could be taught with depth and care. That vision became Soul Lab Gym.
When it comes to coaching, it's not theory. It's technique that was forged in Thailand and refined through thirty-five professional fights. Whether he's working with a complete beginner or a competitive fighter, every session draws on a decade of Muay Thai knowledge and real fight experience.
For the kids, it's about building confidence, discipline, and respect — skills that carry far beyond the gym. For adults and fighters, it's about learning authentic Muay Thai the way it's meant to be taught. Technique first. Progress always.
What Joseph brings to every class, every student, every session.
Joseph is a Muay Femur stylist at heart — precision, timing, and fight IQ matter as much as power. Every student learns the fundamentals deeply before moving forward.
35+ professional fights. Training with world-class fighters in Thailand. This isn't theory — Joseph teaches what he's lived in the ring.
Whether you're a complete beginner, a parent looking for something for your kids, or an experienced fighter — Soul Lab is built to meet you where you are and take you where you want to go.
